Week 36: Final Reading Portfolio: Upaniṣad, Epic, and Buddhist Sanskrit
This week is designed as a 60-minute self-study lesson. Read aloud first, then translate.
Aim of the Week
Complete a final reading portfolio using the tools learned across the guide: cases, verbs, sandhi, participles, and compounds.
Portfolio Task 1: Seen Verse
Choose one verse from Weeks 33–35. Copy it in Devanāgarī and IAST, split the sandhi where useful, and provide a literal translation.

Translate the Sentences
- वने मुनिः शान्त्या उपविशति।
vane muniḥ śāntyā upaviśati. - राजपुत्रः ग्रामात् आगच्छति।
rājaputraḥ grāmāt āgacchati. - विद्यार्थी श्लोकं पठित्वा अर्थं पश्यति।
vidyārthī ślokaṃ paṭhitvā arthaṃ paśyati. - बुद्धं शरणं गच्छामि।
buddhaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchāmi. - सर्वे सत्त्वाः सुखिनः भवन्तु।
sarve sattvāḥ sukhinaḥ bhavantu. - रामः सीतया सह वनं गच्छति।

Portfolio Task 3: Guided Passages
Translate word by word. Identify the pronouns and the verb.
Identify the subject, companions, and destination.
Identify the compound, instrumental, and object.
Reflection
Write 150–200 words: “What can I now do with Sanskrit that I could not do before?”
Recitation Guidance
For the portfolio, read every Sanskrit line aloud before translating. Record yourself if possible and listen for vowel length and pauses.
