This guide is a self-study book in website form. It assumes that you can read Devanāgarī, but it does not assume that you can read Sanskrit texts fluently.
How to Study Each Week
- Read the aim of the week.
- Read the Sanskrit examples aloud before translating them.
- Identify the verb first.
- Mark case endings and compounds only when needed.
- Translate literally first; then produce a smoother English translation.
- Use the answer key only after making a serious attempt.
What Not To Do
- Do not try to memorise every table in one sitting.
- Do not postpone reading until grammar feels complete.
- Do not translate by guessing from English versions of famous verses.
- Do not fear sandhi. Learn to split only the most common forms first.
