Final Reading Assessment
The final assessment is a reading portfolio, not a memory test. It measures whether a student can approach Sanskrit text with method, patience, and grammatical awareness.
Assessment Tasks
- Seen Verse Translation: Translate one verse studied earlier, preferably Bhagavad Gītā 2.47, 2.20, 4.7, or 6.5.
- Unseen Sentence Translation: Translate 8–10 short sentences built from vocabulary and grammar covered in Weeks 1–32.
- Word-by-Word Analysis: Identify the verb, subject, object, case endings, sandhi, and compounds.
- Guided Passage Reading: Translate one short passage from an Upaniṣadic, epic, or simple Buddhist Sanskrit source.
- Reflection: Write 150–200 words: “What can I now do with Sanskrit that I could not do before?”

| Compound handling | Can break short compounds logically. | Identifies compounds but cannot unpack them. |
| Translation | Accurate literal translation with a readable English version. | General meaning is visible but grammar is unstable. |
