Recognise Masculine अ-stems in simple Sanskrit reading.

Core Pattern

रामः, रामम्, रामेण, रामस्य, रामे

Read for recognition first. Memorisation becomes easier after repeated reading.

Translation Practice

  1. रामः ग्रामं गच्छति।
    rāmaḥ grāmaṃ gacchati.
  2. नरः रामं पश्यति।
    naraḥ rāmaṃ paśyati.
  3. रामेण कार्यं क्रियते।
    rāmeṇa kāryaṃ kriyate.
  4. रामस्य मित्रम् आगच्छति।
    rāmasya mitram āgacchati.
Answer key
  1. Rāma goes to the village.
  2. The man sees Rāma.
  3. The work is done by Rāma.
  4. Rāma’s friend comes.

Read the noun and adjective together as a unit. Do not detach an adjective from the noun it describes.
